The Land of Opportunity

The dawn of the petroleum age in the 19th century was sparked by the need to fuel an increasingly illuminated world. Crude, or rock oil as it was first known, was a leap of faith toward a new source of energy (literally a spectacular fusion of Spiritualism and the emergent field of petroleum geology).

This risograph book looks at the oil industry in West Texas, the most significant oil region in the world, through archival pictures, contemporary landscape photographs, and documentation of detritus strewn along the highways that bisect the endless oilfields.
